Adding some quick After School Snack Recipes here. An easy Bread Upma/Bread Uppittu which can be fixed in 15 minutes & can be made from slightly old leftover bread as well

We are not very big on bread, but i sometimes buy bread to specifically make this as our lazy Saturday breakfast :) Also makes for a great after school snack for kids

Bread Upma

Serves 2

You Will Need:

  • 6 slices of Bread - White/Brown/Multi grain
  • 1 medium sized Onion - finely chopped
  • 1 Tomato - Finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 2-3 Green Chillies
  • A sprig of Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric
  • Salt as per taste
How To:

In a pan, slightly dry roast the bread slices on both the sides until slightly crispy. This is done to ensure that the bread spices don't get soggy when you add it to the tadka.

Cut up the bread into pieces

In a kadhai, heat oil, splutter mustard seeds

Add curry leaves, green chilies & onions, add some salt & turmeric & cook for a minute

Add chopped tomatoes & cook for a couple of minutes until the onions & tomatoes turn soft

Now add the bread pieces & some salt & give it a good mix

Serve while its still HOT with some ketchup on the side

NOTE:

Slightly toasting the bread slices is an important step. This helps in keeping the bread slices slightly firm yet soft & not soggy

This tastes best when served immediately
